About Rome Spirit

Rome Spirit is an independent travel guide dedicated to Rome and the Lazio and central-Italy highlights you can realistically reach from it — Ostia Antica, Tivoli, the Castelli Romani, Orvieto, Civita di Bagnoregio, Florence, Naples and Pompeii. Our mission is to plan the trip you actually want, honestly: which tickets genuinely need booking weeks ahead (the Colosseum's mandatory timed slot, the Borghese Gallery's strict two-hour window, the Vatican), when the Roma Pass beats individual tickets, how to skip the ZTL fines that catch out drivers, and which "day trip from Rome" is a comfortable excursion and which one quietly means an early start and a long return.

Our approach

Every guide, itinerary and recommendation on this site is built on first-hand research. We name real neighbourhoods (Centro Storico, Trastevere, Monti, Testaccio, Prati, Aventino), real food (cacio e pepe, carbonara, supplì, pizza al taglio, real artisanal gelato), real experiences (Caravaggio in the free churches, the catacombs of the Appian Way, an aperitivo at golden hour), and we quote real prices in euros. We give honest assessments of tourist traps — the inflated coperto in the squares near the sights, the friendship-bracelet and gladiator scams, the "skip-the-line" resellers you don't need, the unlicensed taxis. If something is genuinely not worth it, we say so.

What we cover

Rome Spirit covers the city and its region in real depth: ancient Rome (the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Palatine, the Pantheon, the Domus Aurea), the Vatican (the Museums, the Sistine Chapel, St Peter's and the dome climb), the great galleries and basilicas (Borghese, the Capitoline Museums, Caravaggio's churches), underground Rome (the catacombs, San Clemente, the Capuchin Crypt), the piazzas and fountains, the neighbourhoods beyond Trastevere, and the day trips of Lazio and central Italy — Ostia Antica, Tivoli, the Castelli Romani, Viterbo, the lakes, Orvieto, Florence, Siena and Assisi.

How we earn revenue

Rome Spirit is a free resource. We earn commissions when you book tours and activities through our affiliate links with GetYourGuide and Viator. This costs you nothing extra; the commission comes from the booking platform, not from you. We do not run our own tours, we have no financial relationship with hotels, restaurants or tour operators, and we have no Booking.com / Expedia / Airbnb affiliations. Read our full affiliate disclosure for details.

Available in 8 languages

Rome Spirit publishes in English (canonical), Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch and Polish. Rome draws travellers from across Europe and beyond, and most English-language guides simply ignore non-English readers — so we publish full, native-quality translations rather than auto-translation.
